Week 6 on the CASE challenge is a fab idea of an invisible card that we saw done by Ann Clemmer, aka Stamper Dog, more info here. While I love her cute snowman, I didn’t want to start on Christmas cards just yet. (Don’t get me wrong, we’ve been making Christmas cards in my weekly classes since the start of September, but I haven’t blogged on Christmas yet. I think that may all change soon!) Anyway, I found it an interesting challenge to see how I could CASE this card without simply copying it but coming up with my own version. I had a think about what other sets I had that would layer well, and flowers seemed the obvious choice!
I started by cutting my window sheets into a 4″ square card. Ok, confession time. I had used my window sheets a few weeks ago for the glitter glass challenge, and hadn’t bought any more, so I didn’t have any pieces large enough for a card blank. But hey, I can improvise, right?! I cut two squares that were 4″x4″, and made a hinge for the top with a bit of Whisper White. I actually like the effect, but I’ve got some more window sheets coming with my next order so I can try this one again!
Anyway, with my almost-ok card blank ready, I prepared my decoration: I used the Flourish Thinlets dies to cut the flowers out using some of my favourite bright summery colours: Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green, Daffodil Delight, Highland Heather, and Calypso Coral. I layered 3 of the flowers on some contrasting card stock and just used my snips to cut round them, filling in the gaps beautifully. I used my snail glue roller to stick the flowers onto the front of the card.
I also cut round the largest die out of some Whisper White, and used my Granny Apple Green ink to stamp the sentiment inside. The “Happy Birthday” comes from the Treat Time set, and I used the marker pen to colour in the words on their own and leave off the squiggle at the top and bottom.
At this point I was happy with my card and took the photos ready to share with you, but I felt there was something else needed just to finish it off. Enter some Basic Black twine along the top to give it a final flourish. I’ll put both photos below so you can tell me if I made the right choice or not! (You can even tell the photos were taken at different times as the lighting has changed!)
