Well, this is a new category I wasn’t planning on!  I always had a dream of what my ideal craft room would look like.  I’m sure many of you are the same.  Pinterest boards with photos for inspiration, many hours spent drooling over other crafter’s wonderful spaces.  (Sidebar, do all Americans have gigantic houses??  How do they have so much space to craft?!?)  I was already so lucky to have an entire room for my hobby/business, and a pretty good sized one at that (by UK standards, at least!) so making it perfect was a dream for “someday”.

Well, sometimes “someday” comes faster than you think!  Grab the popcorn, and hear how my craft room renovation journey began.

16th January was our 9th wedding anniversary.  My job has been so busy recently, and last year I had to work on our wedding anniversary, Valentines Day, my birthday and my husband’s birthday, so this year I promised I would book all of those days off as annual leave.  Well, it’s a good thing I did, because on the afternoon of our wedding anniversary, the ceiling of my craft room (and home office) fell down!

I don’t like to think what would have happened if I’d been in the room when it happened, but I heard an almighty crash, followed by a cloud of dust that set off the smoke alarm.  Tom came running downstairs to see the disaster area that was my room.  Thankfully nobody was hurt, but there was significant amounts of rubble EVERYWHERE.  When I look at the photos of that afternoon/evening, I see the one with the rubble that landed on my laptop.  I had sat in that very spot the previous evening for my facebook live!

Our plans for the rest of the day were quickly abandoned as we waited for the Home Emergency guy to come out (sent by our home insurer).  He reconnected the electrics (as we had lost power to the whole downstairs) and confirmed the area was safe.

We took lots of photos, and got ready for the next stage – insurance claim and clear up.  Come back to hear more!  This story will take several weeks to tell.
