I’ve been so excited for this day! All of the Ikea furniture for my craft room has arrived. It came in two deliveries, one smaller box from DPD with small items, and then a much larger truck with BIG boxes. The lovely delivery guys took them all the way into the kitchen for us. Why the kitchen, you ask? Well it’s about the only room left in the house with any space. The plan was to build the furniture in the kitchen, then once the floor is finished in the craft room, all the furniture can be moved in.
Ooops. Change of plan. The door into our kitchen is tiny, really low. There’s no way we would be able to get the furniture out once it had been built. So plan B (or is it C? D? I don’t know, but it’s good there are 26 letters in the alphabet!)
We built the furniture in the lounge. This involved a bit of rearranging of existing furniture, but in the end we got it all done. Tom and I are these very weird people who really enjoy building Ikea furniture. Tom calls it “Lego for grownups”! With the help of an electric drill plus a rubber mallet that his grandfather owned (and which is probably nearly as old as the house itself!) we managed to do the 3 Kallax units in one evening, and the Alex drawers and Besta shelves the next day.
I’m going to do a separate post to explain the Kallax units, as they are, let’s say, gloriously non-standard. A bit like Tom and me :) But for now I’m really happy, things are really moving on now. I can’t wait to start getting everything into my new happy place!
